Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Michoacan, ca. 500 to 100 BCE. A wonderful set of 3 hand-built pottery female figures known as "pretty ladies" due to their ancient femininity. The first figure features broad shoulders, globular breasts, and a belly that overhangs her waistline. The second figure is of a slender form with red pigment inside each earspool and hands stacked atop her abdomen. The tallest figure bears an orange base color, holds both hands together, and has red pigment embellishing her headdress. Size of largest (orange figure): 1.125" W x 3.2" H (2.9 cm x 8.1 cm); 3.3" H (8.4 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: private Lumberton, Texas, USA collection, acquired before 2010

Condition
Figure with rounded shoulders has loss to tip of nose. Slender figure is repaired from 3 or 4 large pieces and tallest figure has head reattached to neckline, both with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Each figure has light abrasions and encrustations and fading to applied pigment. Nice earthen deposits throughout, and great preservation to overall forms.
