Loyal Convert (1775) Ship Model By Samuel Walker, 1960. In removable plexiglass case. Well crafted, completely handmade model of the British gondola 'Loyal Convert, commanded by Edward Longcroft on Lake Champlain in the Battle of Valcour Island, 1776. Height: 8 1/2"Samuel Walker (1908-1964) was a master craftsman, engineer and ship model builder from Boston, Massachusetts. He enlisted in the USMC in 1942, and served in the battles of of Saipan and Tinian. After the war, Walker married Elizebeth Howard and started a family, while restoring a 1720's house in Merrimac. This is the house where Walker would go on to make so many exceptional ship models. His work has been exhibited at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts, and is included in some of the finest ship model collections in the United States. This model comes directly from the Walker family.
