Description
A military-issued, but possibly captured, cartridge case from the Indian Wars. The McKeever design constitutes two strips of ten cartridge loops enclosed in a leather clamshell which hinges open from the top and held together with a leather strap and brass stud. This design was meant to accommodate the then-standard .45-70 Gov't cartridge was meant to slide onto a belt. This particular case has had those two belt straps removed and instead replaced with two iron loops, modifying the case to instead hang, possibly from a saddle rather than a waist belt. The case is in overall good condition with surface wear and some light corrosion to the brass fittings.
