G.J. McKay (American, XX-XXI). "Cap it Off" acrylic and enamel on wood, 1994. Signed and dated on white section. An eye-catching abstract wall sculpture by G.J. McKay, "Cap it Off" is an example of McKay's found art sculptures comprised of discarded wooden objects that McKay selected, embellished in vibrant hues, and arranged in a layered composition, replete with intriguing geometrical forms and negative spaces. Most of the pieces present in lustrous solid red, blue, yellow, black or white; however, the yellow members are further embellished with a mid-century modern pattern featuring lyrical ribbon-like swirls of red, blue, and white hues as well as lively dot motifs. In addition, a yellow-dotted blue border lines most of the pieces, save the red triangular piece with a jagged edge which is bordered in solid blue on its straight edges and dappled with yellow and blue on its jagged edge. Finally, the large black disk does not have a colored border but instead dazzles us with its distinct band of smaller disks delineated in repousse. A striking wall sculpture by G.J. McKay who creates magnificent, one of a kind artworks from discarded and broken objects that were once deemed worthless. Size: 69" W x 32" H (175.3 cm x 81.3 cm)

Artist Statement: "I incorporate into my found art sculptures many objects that have been used and discarded and may be considered worthless. I try to display these objects in a way that emphasizes their unique visual qualities which I find so exciting. Especially intriguing to me is broken and weathered wood, rusted metals and unusual materials. it is my hope that the viewer will enjoy the composition of these constructions, investigate the materials and reflect on their transformation.
