Description
Her calling card while living in New York, 1929-30. Lightly mounted on black backing, 3 ½” x 2”. Pearl S Buck was a Pulitzer Prize and Nobel Prize winning author who spent much of her life in China, first as the child of Southern Presbyterian missionaries. Buck returned to China in 1914 to care for her mother, married and taught at the University of Nanking. See wrote her masterpiece, The Good Earth and Sons, and remained in Nanking until 1933. The card is addressed The John Day Co., Buck’s publisher and identifies her as Advisor-Editor, undoubtedly an honorary title. This is not a business card, but a calling card, left when visiting someone found to be not home or given as an invitation to a new acquaintance.
