Description
Edo Period, for the short sword, wakizashi. Mokko form, iron, 2 ¼” height with a raised rim. Single riobitsu. The front with five raised and engraved detailed mulberry leaves. The mulberry leaf is the mon or family symbol of two samurai families, the Kuwa and Ota. This guard was originally mounted on the guard of a sword belonging to a samurai from one of those families. The back with two mulberry leaves. Crisply engraved maker’s signature inscription on both sides of the Seppa. A good historic samurai guard.
