Description

19th century, Hercules and Lichas after Antonio Canova, the Nemean lion pelt on top a wood cask with brass plate "Subscriptions Received by Hercules", scrolls at either end, one signed "W. Routledge AD 1872".and one side with secret mechanism to open drawer inscribed "Labour of Hercules", panels depicting the abduction of Ganymede, drawer face with two stags fighting, 30 x 17-1/2 x 8-1/2 in.

Note: This collection box used the "Labour of Hercules hyperbolically indicating a large task.

Provenance: John McInnis Auctioneers, LLC, Massachusetts, December 10, 2021, lot 415, sold for $7,500

Condition
