Description
A Theodore Alexander Figured Mahogany 'Jupe' Type Expansion Circular Dining Table, manufactured by Althorp Living History, Hickory, North Carolina, modern, the top surmounted on a large central column encompassed by four turned column form legs, with a concave quadripartite platform base, raised on brass capped block feet, fitted with eight additional leaves in mahogany case. Robert Jupe patented the mechanism for his 'Improved Expanding Table' in September 1835 (no.6788), whilst in partnership with John Johnstone at 67 New Bond Street, London. The patent description read: "An improved expanding table so constructed that the sections composing its surface may be caused to diverge from a common centre and that the spaces caused thereby may be filled up by inserting leaves or filling pieces". Jupe and Johnson produced these tables together from 1835-40, after which Jupe went into business for himself.

Condition
Structurally sound. In overall good condition, typical dings dents, surface scratches and small losses associated with wear and use. Each of the additional leaves with patched repairs to veneers at the ends.
