Description
Likely Western European in origin, 18th or early 19th century. Oil on linen by an unknown artist. A young man is portrayed against a hazy green background with a cream colored cravat around his neck.
The paint is dry and flaking throughout the piece, especially around the edges. Appears to be on the original stretchers. Please review photos. Measures 19.75" W x 23.0" H.
From the estate and lifelong collection of William Garrett Hodges (1946-2014). Hodges was a Virginia-based dealer of fine arts, with specialization in prints and rare books, having collected for decades. He supplied and consulted various groups on antiquities throughout his career, including the White House, the Vice President's residence, the FBI, and multiple film and television series.
