This lot consists of a framed, hand executed oil and possibly gouache on thin board, rendered in the modern style of artist Amedeo Modigliani (Italian, 1884-1920). "Modigliani" is hand-written at bottom right. This framed piece measures approximately 8.5" x 6.25", with an image sight of approximately 7" x 4.75".

Amedeo Modigliani (Italian, 1884-1920) was an artist active during the early 20th century, best known for the elegant portraits he created. He led a fascinating bohemian life, a far cry from his bourgeois upbringing. Modigliani's art career took him all over Europe, where he also wrestled with the hardships of poverty, addiction, and illness. The figures in his paintings are otherworldly, often long-necked and haunting. Frida Kahlo, Juan Gris, and Pablo Picasso were among the familiar faces (even the painted subjects) in Modigliani's world. In the end, his self-destructive tendencies were his undoing. Modigliani never lived to enjoy artistic success, and, with utmost irony, is now among the most celebrated painters of his era.

Painting is in overall great condition for the age. No scuffs, nicks and scratches. Paper is wavy/bowing -- painting could benefit from being framed behind glass (it currently is not). Overall image and signature are bright and vibrant.
