Description

Exceptional Honore Pons Bronze Dore et Patine Clock Set

second quarter 19th century, Paris, in the Rococo Revival taste, the serpentine bronze dore clock base decorated with bold scrollwork and rocaille work, pierced and decorated with flower heads, the dial set with enamel numerals and framed with lilies, supporting bronze patine cherubs holding lovebirds, the works signed by Pons (French, 1773-1851), h. 23", w. 23-1/2", d. 11"; and the matching candelabra with cherubs on the bases, the scrolled candle branches adorned with lovebirds and supporting flower-molded candle cups, drip pans and bobeches, h. 29-1/2", dia. 16-3/4".

Provenance: Estate of Mahin Forrest, Houston, Texas.

Condition

In very good condition. One candelabrum needs adjusting to the internal threaded rod for the arms to tighten. No sign of damage or missing parts. The back of the clock is missing its circular bezel for the movement bars to mount. Beautiful casting quality. Pendulum present. Lacking winding key.
