Description
Cotuit, Massachusetts. 2nd quarter 20th century. Pine. Round nails. Painted wooden diorama of two schooners in full sail, possibly in race. With black painted hulls and white sails, the vessels are set against a painted sea and expansive clouded sky. The Pines was a seaside resort at Cotuit, Massachusets that operated from 1891 to 1958. Pencil inscription on back, "Mayer, The Pines" "Cotuit...". Very good condition. Minor abbrasions to painted frame. Does not appear to ever have had a glass front. From the Marty Osler Collection. 11.75"H x 28"W x 2.25"D.
