Description
1735 Sextus Empiricus on Pyrrhonism GREEK Philosophy Skepticism French
Sextus Empiricus was a 2nd-century Greek philosopher known for his works of pyrrhonism. In fact, to this day, Sextus is considered the leading authority of classical pyrrhonist skepticism. In his book “Institutions of Pyrrhonism”, Sextus describes the differences between pyrrhonism and other Hellenistic philosophies focusing primarily on the ideas that all knowledge should be discovered individually, rather than simply trusting the judgement of others. Sextus, and his views of pyrrhonism, allow for personal experience and individual perception to influence ones beliefs and opinions rather than solely relying on the experiences of others.
This 1735 French edition of Sextuss “Pyrrhonism” was published in Amsterdam, translated into French from the original Greek by Claude Huart.
