Description
Auguste Rodin (1840-1917), First Day Issue

Auguste Rodin (November 12, 1840 - November 17, 1917) was a French sculptor. He expressed his work largely in textures and forms, pouring it out with great psychological impact, and is considered the greatest realist sculptor of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Rodin's place in the history of European sculpture is the same as that of the poet Dante in the history of European literature, and Rodin, along with his two students, Maillol and Bourdelle, are known as the "three pillars" of European sculpture. He deserves to be called a great sculptor. Auguste Rodin was the most influential French sculptor of the 19th century. He worked diligently throughout his life, daring to break through the shackles of the official academy and follow his own path, adept at absorbing all the best traditions, with a profound understanding of the beauty and vividness of ancient Greek sculpture and the technique of contrast. Rodin is an epoch-making figure in the history of Western sculpture, the master of traditional sculpture in Europe for more than 2,000 years and the creator of new sculpture in the 20th century.
