French-Vietnamese painter Le Pho, an impressionist and surrealist artist, is one of the most prominent Vietnamese artists of the twentieth century and one of the most sought-after artists in Southeast Asia today. Le Pho studied in Paris and spent most of his life in France. He studied with Victor Tardieu, a friend and companion of Henri Matisse. He was one of four EBAI graduates to pursue a career in Paris, including Mai TrungTh, VCaoam and the female painter LeThLu. His artworks have been exhibited in Paris, Lyon, Nice and Rouen, as well as in Europe in Brussels and New York, Morocco. His paintings successfully blend Impressionism, Surrealism and traditional Chinese painting, synthesizing Eastern symbols with Western aesthetics in a poetic and romantic way.
