9" x 13". Oct. 21, 1863. Letter of commendation to General Santiago Tapia detailing a seven-hour long battle with bandits, in which he comments on the valor of the soldiers in repelling the ambush. General Ignacio Zaragoza was a military opponent of Santa Anna during the Ayulta Revolution and was a supporter of Benito Juarez. He served as Minister of War and the Navy under Juarez, and died of typhoid fever after his famous victory against the French that led to the establishment of "Cinco De Mayo". **Good condition. Some stains and foxing with some creases on corners and edges.** $400 - $600
