Description
Atsuko Tanaka (B.1932), Acrylic Painting
Signed (reverse)
Image Size: 28 by 35 1/2 in. 70 by 90 cm.
Atsuko Tanaka, born in 1932, is not only the progenitor of Japanese performance art, but also an important member of the Japanese avant-garde concrete school. A representative of the post-war world's female art community, Tanaka's early works were highly cross-media in spirit, and her decades-long series of colorful "Lines and Circles" are among the most famous abstract installations. She has always referred to these experiments in any medium as "painting," laying the foundation for her extensive abstract painting in the later years of her artistic career.
