Antique Chinese calligraphy hand scroll painting, ink on paper canvas; The calligraphy is painted on fine silk brocade canvas. The calligraphy was in preparation for a painting that was never added. Subject: Calligraphy poem; The brocade on the outside of the painting appears to have been woven with silver wrapped thread, which has oxidized and blackened over the years.
Name on painting: Hu Gongshou (1823-1886); He was a Chinese painter from Shanghai.
Painting size: Approx. 24 in. H x 9 in. W.
Mounting size: Approx. 125 in. H x 10 in. W.
