Description
A beautiful lot of 12 highly graphic pocket mirrors in wonderful condition. (A) A double-sided celluloid pennant depicting a pretty Victorian lady riding a donkey "On the way to the Cairo Street Fair / October 11 - 15, 1898." The back side shows the donkey bucking the woman off, with her hat flying through the air, reading "One of the Sights at the Street Fair / You Will Miss It - If You Miss It." CONDITION: 9.0. (B) Has a beautiful image of Gertrude Hayes with rose in her hair, reading "Follies of the Day." The backside reveals the pocket mirror. CONDITION: Very little silvering missing to the mirror. (C) Depicts a bare-breasted woman. Backside reveals mirror. CONDITION: 9.0. Very minimal silvering missing from mirror. (D) Shows a pretty woman staring forward, reading "Compliments Egan, Harris & Murphey / 'Clever Clothes' for Good Dressers / Same Price to Everyone." Backside reveals mirror. CONDITION: Mirror is in excellent condition. (E) "Compliments of the Pullman Buffet / Who's Your Friend, Bill?" Depicting two skeletons with their arms around a gentleman. Advertising at the bottom reads "J. Peter Braner." Backside reveals mirror. CONDITION: Mirror with some silvering missing around the edges, still in a 9.0 condition. (F) Great image of an early backbar with a leaded glass light. Banner on front reads "The Mint Compliments of Geo. Dietlein, Aberdeen, So. Dak." Backside reveals. CONDITION: Mirror is missing some silvering, but in 9.0+ otherwise. (G) Brightly colored Lady Liberty image on the front in red, white and blue, with the iconic eagle. Backside reveals mirror. CONDITION: Mirror is in excellent condition. (H) A handheld pocket mirror with a hold metal handle. This advertises the Oliver Standard Visible Typewriter No. 3, with a young girl posed behind the product. CONDITION: 9.0+. (I) Shows early Victorian lady with very tight corset, advertising Henderson Gibson Corset Style 777, "Caters to Her Majesty / The American Woman." Backside reveals mirror. CONDITION: Mirror is in wonderful condition, 9.0+. (J) Depicts a detailed image of the interior of a saloon, with early gentleman standing at the saloon. Reads "Compliments of Flaherty and Mellen, Geneva, N.Y." Backside reveals mirror. CONDITION: 9.0. Mirror in excellent condition. (K) Shows three people, two men and one woman, reading "Drenguis' / Kindly Remember Us. / The Up-To-Date Place." Backside reveals mirror. CONDITION: 9.0. Mirror in excellent condition. (L) Shows the interior of an early drugstore, advertising "Harry Smith's Drug Store / Parkesburg, PA." Backside reveals mirror. CONDITION: Mirror has some silvering missing, but celluloid is still in 9.0+ condition. Overall, a fantastic instant collection of some of the earliest and best pocket mirrors available. Condition: (9.0 - 9.0+). Dimensions: Case: 18" x 12" x 2".
