Item Details
Description
We are excited to bring you a rare World War II archive of the battles in Europe of the 28th Infantry Artillery Division.
This archive includes Staff Sargent Clarence Christiansen’s personal black notebook, the 28th Division’s War Annual, personal medals, photographs and more.
This World War II Archive brings to life the exploits of the 28th Infantry Artillery Division, also known as the “Bloody Bucket” Battery through the experience of veteran SS Christensen.
The 28th earned its notable nickname from the opposing forces for the badge on their uniforms and the fierceness of their fighting. Staff Sargent Christensen’s Division patch is also included in this archive.
One of the treasures and stars of this collection is Staff Sargent’s personal documentation in his pocket-sized black notebook. As if he is telling a story, S. S. Christensen’s lists dates for the cities and towns his unit marched through and fought in Northern France and Germany.
We see reference to Operation Overlord, more commonly referred to as “D” Day. As a bonus you can cross reference the places in Normandy, The Ardennes, The German Rhineland and Central Europe that are called out in the 28th Unit’s War Annual.
The War Annual contains hundreds of pictures, of places, and people that help bring the training, preparation and aftermath of the battles of the 28th to life.
In his one-of-a-kind little black book, S. Sargent Christiansen not only chronicles his journey through historic WWII battles by reference to dates and locations of towns, but also includes references to other soldiers, and unidentified code numbers.
The personal photographs complement the archive and provide a beginning and end for SS Christensen’s personal service in WWII. One photograph shows the Staff Sargent at his training in the US before deploying overseas, another the end of his service with fellow members of his unit in Neustadt, Germany, home of the European Theater of Operations.
SS Christensen earned the Bronze Star for his service in Europe, as well as awards for participation in certain campaigns, including ones in Africa. These awards are included in this archive.
While occurring over 75 years ago, these personal items of one soldier bring back the infamous battles against the Adolph Hitler and the German Army in Africa and Europe. The archive in its totality reminds us why people of this age and service are called “The Greatest Generation”.
Registered to serve in the military in 1940 when he was employed by the Sunshine Division Police Department in Portland Oregon, enlisting in 1943.
While in the Army during WWII, he was in the 28th Infantry Division as a radio operator and sharpshooter who also participated in the Operation Overlord campaign, AKA The Battle of Normandy .
After serving in WWII, he received an Honorable Discharge on September 14, 1945 as a Staff Sergeant.
He owned his own grocery store after the war.
Sergeant Christensen passed away in 1984, Multnomah, Oregon.
Lot comes with everything you see including the medals, infantry yearbook, photographs, and more. A great collection of history.
