Italian Artist Mid-Century Modern Abstract Zoran Antonio Music Colored Lithograph Signed, Pencil Signed Lower Right, 15 x 19" sheet size, on C.M. Fabriano paper
Of Slovene descent, Anton Zoran MuÅ¡ic was born in the Austro-Hungarian town of Bukovica near Gorizia, Italy. He and his family were forced to flee multiple times due to war, occupation, and border changes. From 1930 to 1935, he attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb and traveled extensively afterward until he was sent to the Nazi Dachau concentration camp in 1943. After the war, MuÅ¡ic established exceptional international standing and was awarded the Prix de Paris in 1951, the Venice Biennial Art Graphic Prize in 1956, and the UNESCO Prize in 1960. He received particular recognition for his notable 1970’s We Are Not the Last series, inspired by Dachau. In 1984, he was appointed Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres, and in 1991, the Officier de la Légion d'Honneur while also decorated with the eminent PreÅ¡eren Award for lifetime achievements. With multiple retrospectives since 1972, his work can be found at the Tate, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina SofÃÂa, and Victoria & Albert Museum.
