Description
Roman Imperial, Ca. 2nd Century AD. Based on a Hellenistic prototype of the 2nd Century BC., his face with deep-set eyes, and unruly beard of deeply drilled curls, his long wavy hair bound in a diadem, flowing down the sides, and falling in plaits over the nape of his neck, the crown of the head carved flat for addition of a modius. Size 3-3/8 inches H. 4-1/2 inches H on custom mount. Nice ancient weathering and patina. Acquired from Terry Chase, Clifton NJ, who acquired it from an Old New Jersey estate Collection. #15457
