Poster, 22½ x 34 inches, on newsprint, printed in red and black; moderate wear, linen-backed with some restoration. No place, circa 1969 The quote comes from a speech by Frederick Douglass on West India emancipation, 3 August 1857: "Those who profess to favor freedom and yet depreciate agitation are men who want crops without plowing the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. . . . Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did, and it never will."
