He was a Polish painter, assemblage artist, theater director, set designer, writer, actor and art theorist. Kantor is famous for his revolutionary theatrical performances both in Poland and abroad. His artistic attitude of him is inspired by constructivism, Dadaism, informal painting and surrealism. In the first years after the war, his art was close to surrealism. In the late 1950s, he made paintings in which he spread color across the canvas to form dynamic, abstract patterns. This way of painting can be called tachyism, action painting, informal art or abstract expressionism: artistic directions from different countries with great similarities.
