Leather Baldric and Belt worn by soldiers in the Seventh Regiment.

Description:

Comprises:

White leather baldric with a holder for a scabbard. A 2.25" × 3.25" metallic plate bearing a "7" is attached to the sash. Handwritten in block letters in ink on the leather reverse is "E. B. Fernald G. Co. " White leather belt with a 2" × 2.5" metallic buckle bearing a large "G". Handwritten in block letters in ink on the leather reverse is "Co. G. / Sergt. E. F. Pancoast. " The "Seventh Regiment Gazette," February 1910, reports that "St. E. F. Pancoast, Co. G" was a First Entry Prize winner, Novice Class, in the Janaury7, 1910 Rifle Club Match. In the October-November 1916 "Gazette," Edward F. Pancoast" is mentioned as being in Company A. In New York City in 1806, four companies (A,B,C,D) of Artillery were organized and assigned to the Battalion of Artillery, First Brigade in response to troubles with the British Navy. During the War of 1812, the companies were on active duty in New York harbor forts. In 1824, they adopted the name "National Guards" in honor of the Marquis de Lafayette, who was commandant of the French National Guards, changing their designation as National Guard in 1832. In 1825 and 1826, Companies E,F,G, and H were added. On July 27, 1847, they were redesignated as the 7th Regiment of Infantry (National Guard), New York State Militia. In April 1861, the regiment was mustered into federal service and, in 1862, the N. Y.S.M. was redesignated N.Y. National Guard. Mustered into federal service, the 7th saw service on the Mexican border in 1916, and, redesignated as the 107th Infantry, in Belgium and France in 1918. In 1943, the Regiment was broken up, reorganized and redesignated and, in separate battalions, took part in the Normandy invasion and served in the Pacific.
