Description
Two authentic Naga heavy red multi-strand bead necklace with macrame closures. Each has approximately 75 strands of orange/red natural beads with blue and white beads at the top attached to 2.5" wide crochet macrame woven ends. One has a 1940s Indian coin closure (2 Annas - George VI). Hanging length is approximately 16". The second has a 1936 Indian Anna coin closure. Hanging length is approximately 14". The Naga tribes inhabit the Naga Hills in Northeastern India. Nagaland has a rich diversity of ethnic groups, languages and religions. More than 80% of the population lives in small, isolated villages and practice their own unique rituals and traditions that have existed for centuries. Naga people are excellent and skilled craftsmen and are experts in basketry, weaving, woodcarving, pottery and metal work. Naga tribes are known for their numerous seasonal fairs and celebrations, each tribe with their own distinct ceremonies at which dance, music and attire play an important role.
