Pre-Columbian, Gulf Coast Mexico, Veracruz, ca. 3rd to 7th century CE. A mold-formed pottery sonriente figure with attached arms that articulate around in a circle. The female figure stands upon delineated feet and wears a knee-length skirt with a textured belt. Her face presents with almond eyes, pointed earrings, full cheeks and lips, and a grand headdress that doubles as a whistle. The whistle creates a low-tone sound when air is blown into the mouthpiece. Size: 6.4" W x 9.625" H (16.3 cm x 24.4 cm); 10.375" H (26.4 cm) on included custom stand.

Condition
Repaired with thick adhesive along break lines. Loss to portions of headdress as shown. Arms are suspended by modern cords. Encrustations, softening to finer details, nicks, and abrasions across most surfaces. Nice earthen deposits. Arms articulate smoothly. Whistle creates low-pitched sound when air is blown into the mouthpiece.
