Description
Paul Evans Studio for Directional, Cityscape, 1975. Chrome plated steel tiled wall mirror with intersecting floating console with one drawer, signed Paul Evans on both console and mirror. Console 6 x 36 x 14 inches, mirror 70 x 20 x 3 inches - total width is 48 inches when put together. This is a good example of important furniture designer, sculptor, and artist Paul Evans' later work. While designing for manufacturer Directional Furniture, Evans insisted every piece was made by hand, finished by hand, and supervised at each step of production. The patchwork design of this piece was not pre-cut or predetermined, as each piece often had its own unique pattern. Evans was a notable figure in the American Studio Craft Movement, alongside fellow artists and designers such as George Nakashima, Wharton Esherick, and Sam Maloof.
