Description
Layport, Ronald (American/Western PA, b. 1942), Natural Edge Balanced Bowl, c. 2000/2001, turned, carved, and pickled maple burl wood, stone affixed at one edge, signed and marked 8-2000, Glacial-01 at underside edge, 18 x 3.75 inches. Ron Layport is a contemporary wood sculptor and furniture maker currently residing in Western PA. This piece is part of an early collection produced during his transitionary period from primarily furniture making to wood turning and sculpting. He has shown extensively, and is represented by galleries throughout the US, including Wood Symphony Gallery in Los Angeles, and Momentum Gallery in Asheville, NC. He has written articles for publications such as Fine Woodworking magazine, and his works can be found in the collections of the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Minneapolis Institute of Art, the Yale University Art Gallery, and the Carnegie Museum of Art.
