Ca. 900-1100 AD.
A gorgeous solid silver neck ornament made by a fine Viking silversmith. It features a round section shank of silver which tapers to a conical-shaped finial at each end. The Viking neck torc was not just a piece of jewelry, but an important part of the Norse culture. They were used to show an individual's social standing, and could also be seen as a status symbol. They were often worn on special occasions, such as weddings or important ceremonies. The neck torc was also believed to have protective properties and its wearer was seen as being blessed by the gods.
