Description
**First Time At Auction**
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A delicate glass unguentarium of transparent form with a dramatically compressed base centered by a lengthy, candlestick-shaped neck. Vessels like this were used to hold scented oils and other perfumed liquids and were typically accompanied by a long applicator that could reach into the bottom of the body. Size: 3.5" W x 7.1" H (8.9 cm x 18 cm); 7.8" H (19.8 cm) on included custom stand.
Exhibited in "Ancient Glass: Selections from the Richard Brockway Collection" at the Hallie Ford Museum of Art at Willamette University, Salem from March 10 to May 19, 2007 and "Glass of the Ancient World" at the Vero Beach Museum of Art, Florida from October 11 to December 28, 2008.

Condition
Minor abrasions, with light micro-bubbling within glass matrix, and weathering film in some areas, otherwise intact and excellent. Great transparency and rainbow iridescence!
