Ancient Greece, Cyprus, ca. 800 BCE. A beautiful pottery flask presenting a flattened, circular body, a slender, tubular neck, and a flared rim flanked by a pair of ribbon-form handles, all enveloped in an orange-hued slip. As evidenced by the remains of black and red concentric circles on each face, this vessel was manufactured in Cyprus for export to the Holy Land and is known as a target flask or a pilgrim's flask. Size: 4" W x 5.7" H (10.2 cm x 14.5 cm); 5.9" H (15 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: ex-Barakat Gallery, Beverly Hills, California, USA, acquired prior to 2000
