Item Details
Description
James Fenwick Landsdowne Canada B: 1937 D: 2008. Limited Edition collotype 19/100. Entitled - Cabots Tragapon which is a pheasant found in South East Asia. This is one of the larger lithographs Landsdowne created. Fenwick Lansdowne was a Canadian artist and naturalist known for his wildlife paintings, primarily of birds. He was born in Hong Kong and moved to Canada with his family at a young age. He developed a love for nature and art early on and went on to study at the Vancouver School of Art - now Emily Carr University of Art and Design and the Académie Julian in Paris. Lansdowne's paintings are highly detailed and realistic, often depicting birds in their natural habitats. He was particularly interested in waterfowl and songbirds, and his works often showcased the beauty and intricacy of their feathers. In addition to his paintings, Lansdowne also wrote and illustrated several books on birds, including Birds of the West Coast and Songbirds in the Garden. Lansdowne's work has been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout North America, and he is widely regarded as one of Canada's most accomplished wildlife artists. He was also a passionate conservationist, and his paintings helped to raise awareness about the importance of preserving natural habitats for wildlife. In 1981, Lansdowne was awarded the Officer of the Order of Canada, one of Canada's highest civilian honours. He was recognized for his contributions to Canadian art and his efforts to promote conservation. Royal Canadian Academy of Arts: Lansdowne was elected a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 1962. In 1998, Lansdowne was awarded the John A. Livingston Award by the Canadian Wildlife Federation. The award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the conservation and protection of Canadian wildlife. Lansdowne was posthumously awarded the Visions of Nature Award by the Canadian Museum of Nature. The award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the public's understanding and appreciation of nature.
