Dear friends this painting sells unframed but stretched over a stretcher. Frame increases the cost of delivery. About the artist: Matvey Borisovich Kogan-Shatz was born on November 6, 1911 in Mogilev-Podolsky, in the family of actors of the mobile Jewish theater in Yiddish [1]. The first part of the surname was from his birth and speaks of his belonging to the servants of the Temple, and the second - Shatz - the abbreviation for “shaleah tsibur” (translated from Hebrew means “messenger of the community”). In 1903, the family moved to Odessa [2].
In 1935 he graduated from the OKhI, a student of P. Volokidin, T. Fraerman and A. Shovkunenko. Then he moves to Kiev. In 1939 he graduated from KHI, a student at A. Shovkunenko.
Since 1939 he participated in national and foreign exhibitions in Italy, France, Yugoslavia. After graduation, he immediately joined the army and received the rank of lieutenant of the quartermaster service. In the army, he served as the artist of the headquarters of the 20th Army, General Remezov [3]. According to fellow artists, he was “twice a Jew of the Soviet Union” [3].
After demobilization, he returned to Kiev and at the beginning he lived with his family in the basement. In 1947 he entered the Union of Artists. In 1970 he participated in an exhibition in Japan.
