Description
1864 EXQUISITE 1ed Vasco da Gama Voyages INDIA Africa Mozambique Exploration
Vasco da Gama was a 15th-century Portuguese explorer known for being the first European sea voyager to reach India and is considered to be part of the most prestigious early explorers including Columbus, Magellan, Cortez, and the like. In July of 1497, da Gama set sail for India intending to sail around southern Africa. The voyage took to South Africa, Mozambique, Kenya, and finally to southern India.
His journal and discovery notes were a popular read for centuries following this historic voyage, perhaps none more so than Arthur Morelets French translation. Morelet, a 19th-century naturalist, was much more known for his writings on mollusks and ocean sciences, though perhaps his interest in the sea led him to translate da Gamas famed voyage memoir.
