Description

The Ponte Nomentano is a bridge in Rome, Italy, which carried the Via Nomentana over the Aniene River. The bridge is noted for its medieval bridge tower, which served to protect this important northern approach to Rome.Rossini is best known for his etchings of ancient Roman architecture. Rossini was born in Ravenna, and studied at the Academy of Bologna and graduated in 1813 as an architect and artist. In contrast to Piranesi, Rossini made greater use of the bucolic settings in his etchings of Roman ruins. His images of the architectural masterpieces of ancient Rome, including the Pantheon, the Coliseum, the Appian Way, the Temple of Peace, and the Golden House of Nero, have greatly influenced architects, artists, writers, and other connoisseurs of Roman culture up to the present day. Unframed. Matted in a 2 1/2 inch ivory colored conservation mat. Provenance: Phyllis Lucas Gallery, NYC. [Image size: Height: 17.75 in; Width: 21.25 in.
