Description
An exceptional profusely decorated neoclassical style fireplace mantel, probably late 19th century, in original paint including soft colors on flowers. The center of the frieze steps out and is decorated with a relief carving of an urn draped with swags of flowers and is flanked by panels of scrolled flowers on vines. The frieze over a fluted panel decorated with rosettes. The terminals of the frieze step out and are decorated with a relief carved double handled urn over paneled columns decorated with relief carvings of flowers, acanthus and urns - the shaped mantle cornice is decorated with dentil molding below a carved border. Overall size 7' 5 1/2"W x 5' 1/4"H x 9 1/2" Depth - the opening 5' 7 3/4" W x 3' 7 1/2"H x 1 1/2" Depth. Overall, very good condition.
