Two Russian enameled coronation cups known as the "Khodynka Cup of Sorrows", that were made for the coronation of Tsar Nicholas II and Tsarina Alexandra Feodorovna in 1896. The cup bears the cyphers of Nicholas and Alexandra surrounded by a geometric pattern with the Romanov eagle on the opposite side. Both cups with enameling chips on rim and edge of base otherwise good condition. Each measures 4"H x 3 3/4" diameter. Note that these cups were given to supporters on the Khodynka Field in Moscow on May 18 1896 along with food and other gifts - over 1/2 million were present to receive the gifts, which was larger than the field could accommodate. As rumors spread throughout the field that a gold coin was in the cup, a stampede erupted and over 1000 people were killed, hence the name the "Cup of Sorrow".
