Ian M. Ball (Australian American, 1929-2017). An original oil painting on canvas. Titled, "Gorbasm." A Surrealist work painted 1990, depicting symbols of the former Soviet Union under Mikael Gorbachev and the height of the Glasnost and Perestroika "openness" eras. With abstract clouds, dove form holding the Soviet flag in its beak, Kremlin, steel girder with CCCP (USSR) stamp. and other architectural elements. Title in a faux Kyrillic script and dated 1990 to lower left with artist signature and dated to lower right IAN M BALL 1990. Additional hand written title, artist name, and dated to verso. As well as his for paintings, the artist was well known as a 20th Century journalist, covering the Nikita Khrushchev and Richard Nixon debates in California and Moscow, the Kennedy assassinations, and the Vietnam War for the Daily Telegraph (U.K.). Presented in a gilt carved wood frame.
