Description
Emmanuel Villanis (French, 1858-1914). A very fine late 19th Century French bronze bust sculpture. Titled, "Thais." A figural work inspired by the Hellenistic Greek courtesan who accompanied Alexander the Great on his campaigns. Modeled in the Art Nouveau style, depicting an attractive Neoclassical maiden with fabulous variegating green, brown, and deep red color, and excellent hand finished detail. Impressed signature ?E VILLANIS with raised title THAIS to the fore, stamped with SOCIETE DES BRONZES DES PARIS foundry seal, and numbered CB 3264.
Dimensions: 22 X 11 X 7 in.
Condition: Good overall condition, having age related surface wear and evidence of patina. Estate fresh to the market.
