Description
**Originally Listed At $300**
United States, Southwest, 20th century. Signed on the lower right. A stunning pastel drawing of an adobe Spanish Mission church in New Mexico. Note the wonderful attention to the regional architectural details, featuring wooden vigas (beams) projecting from the roof line; hand-hewn balustrade, doors, and windows; massive beehive shaped buttresses, and the cross atop the bell tower. Such beautiful churches were favorite subjects for artists such as Georgia O'Keeffe and Ansel Adams. Both depicted the Francisco de Assisi Mission Church of Ranchos de Taos for example, and O'Keeffe famously described it as "one of the most beautiful buildings left in the United States by the early Spaniards." A lovely pastel, replete with both aesthetic and historical value, set in a charming wooden frame with a distressed finish that complements the composition perfectly. Size of sight view: 10.875" L x 12.875" W (27.6 cm x 32.7 cm) Size of frame: 17.5" L x 19.375" W (44.4 cm x 49.2 cm)
