Description
**Originally Listed At $500**
Susanne Nyberg (American, b. 1953). Oil on canvas, ca. 1980. Signed on lower left. An enchanting landscape painting of a charming creek babbling through a lush forest with a mountain range in the distance by American artist Susanne Nyberg. Nyberg's eye for composition is especially apparent here. A series of boulders zigzags from the lower left, inviting the viewer to follow the meandering creek bed. Mature trees with trunks that are naturally lit by dappling sunlight arch overhead, almost serving as visual parentheses for the flowing waters between them. Finally, lush, verdant foliage and a distant mountain range complete the scene. Nyberg's expressive brushwork and rich impasto capture the lively, vibrance of the environs; one can almost hear the babbling creek. All is delineated in a beautiful color palette - harmonious shades of azure blue, violet, forest and spring green, taupe, creamy white, peach, aqua, and plum. Size: 20" L x 16" W (50.8 cm x 40.6 cm)
Susanne Nyberg was raised in Massachusetts, later moved to Washington, D.C., and then to Arizona. In Boston, she studied at the Art Institute and The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, and in Washington, D.C. she studied at the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design. This said, perhaps her greatest influence was artist Bill Freeman, the prominent Western landscape painter whom she met when she moved to Arizona early in her career. Freeman would become her mentor and close friend. Nyberg is best known for her impressively realistic oil and palette knife plein air landscape paintings. She and her husband have lived in the scenic Arizona desert in a small town called Carefree for most of their lives.
According to Nyberg's artist statement, "Susanne Nyberg’s artistic inspiration comes from the Arizona mountains where she lives. Whether she is painting realistic landscapes, or abstract paintings that incorporate minerals and gems mined from the mountains, the natural beauty of her surroundings compels her to create art."
