Description
American, early-mid 19th century. A fine example of a Mid-Atlantic Federal Classical period mahogany antique butler's secretary in flame mahogany. The desk drawer is lowered by pressing twin brass buttons on the inside of the desk drawer, when open the drawer reveals a fine fitted interior with maple drawers and pigeon holes and a maroon felt/baize writing surface. The dresser is supported is flanked with a finely pair of carved columns with floral carvings and raised on turned legs with a ball foot. Measures 47" L x 22.5" W x 44" H.
Overall good condition; scratches on top and bits of veneering missing from the maple drawers.
From the estate and lifelong collection of William Garrett Hodges (1946-2014). Hodges was a Virginia-based dealer of fine arts, with specialization in prints and rare books, having collected for decades. He supplied and consulted various groups on antiquities throughout his career, including the White House, the Vice President's residence, the FBI, and multiple film and television series.
