This lot contains four rare bird prints from the late 18th and 19th centuries. George Louis Leclerc Buffon (1707-1788) Le Manchot hand-colored engraving, Pavo Cristatus, or Indian Peafow by Sepp & Nozeman c.1829, Esquimaux Curlow redeux print by Aubdubon/Bown, and an 18th century Sparvier da Columbi bird print on chain laid paper.
Overall good condition. Some foxing and blemishes throughout. The largest measures 17.5" W x 19.0" H.
From the estate and lifelong collection of William Garrett Hodges (1946-2014). Hodges was a Virginia-based dealer of fine arts, with specialization in prints and rare books, having collected for decades. He supplied and consulted various groups on antiquities throughout his career, including the White House, the Vice President's residence, the FBI, and multiple film and television series.
