Jean Dubuffet (1901-1985) was a French painter and sculptor who is best known for his work in the art movement known as Art Brut, or Outsider Art. He was born in Le Havre, France and studied at the Academie Julian in Paris. Dubuffet's art is characterized by its raw and primitive qualities, often featuring crude textures and unconventional materials. He rejected traditional artistic conventions and instead sought to create works that were more spontaneous and instinctive. Dubuffet's work has been exhibited around the world and he is considered one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.
