The Manney Family Collection.

Note

The note reads, "Harriet Dawson (Mrs. Thoms McDonough) bought by B. ...at the Geo...Parkman estate, his mother was a McDonough. Cousin Geo. ordered all family portraits to be destoryed. This was 'unknown.' & B.S. recognized..."

The sitter, Harriet Dawson McDonough, was the wife of Thomas McDonough (1740-1805), British Consul to the New England states after the American Revolution, and the mother-in-law of Dr. George Parkman (1790-1849). Parkman married their daughter, Eliza Agnes McDonough (1797-1877) in 1816. The miniature and brooch with miniature probably belonged to Mrs. George Parkman.
