Illustrated with color frontispiece and 15 color plates, all mounted and all with captioned tissue guards, and numerous in-text black and white illustrations. Publisher's quarter vellum over cream paper-covered boards, decorated in gilt, front board unevenly toned; top edge gilt, other edges untrimmed; prelims foxed and with offsetting; some pages unopened; in original white dust-jacket, tattered and soiled; Latimore and Haskell, pp. 52-53; Riall, p. 138
