Signed and Inscribed by Neal Cassady on the dedication page to Glenn Todd: ”8-9-67. For Glenn, well, once around seems enuf, eh? Love, Neal Cassady.” The book is dedicated to Cassady, along with Jack Kerouac and William Burroughs. Neal Cassady was a major figure of the Beat Generation of the 1950s and the psychedelic and counterculture movements of the 1960s. He was prominently featured as the model for the character Dean Moriarty in Jack Kerouac‘s iconic novel, On the Road. Cassady also appeared in Allen Ginsberg‘s poems, and in several other works of literature by numerous writers. For a number of years, Glenn Todd and close friends like Dave Haselwood and Justin Hein resided at 1403 Gough Street in San Francisco. Their large multi-room pad became an important creative refuge for the San Francisco Beat-&-Hippy scene, which included several significant artists, poets, and their publishers. A wonderful association copy of this cornerstone of Beat literature. This is the important eighth printing, being the first uncensored edition, containing the original full text exactly the way as it appeared in Ginsberg‘s original manuscript. Ginsberg‘s revolutionary and historic poem, which set off one of the great episodes in the battle for freedom of speech, and against censorship, with a rare inscription by Neal Cassady. From the collection of Glenn Todd.
