From Askart.com: Biography from Wallace Gallery Rachel Beebe (1897-1996) lived in Greenport, L.I. for most of her life where she raised her four children by herself. She began painting in the 1940's, attending classes with Whitney Hubbard. She also traveled to Maine where she studied watercolor painting with Edgar Albert Whitney (1891-1987). As a result of this training, she became an accomplished watercolorist. Beebe joined Caroline M. Bell, Madeline Bassarear, Clara Moore Howard and other Peconic Bay Impressionists for painting excursions to Gloucester, Massachusetts. They also painted together along the docks in Greenport, Long Island near Beebe's home. Each summer, Beebe participated in a show at Preston's dock in Greenport with other members of the group. There they sold paintings for little money. She died just short of her 100th birthday in 1996. In 1997, Beebe was the subject of a major retrospective at the Island Artists Gallery in Greenport.
