Roy Lichtenstein (1923-1997) was an American pop artist known for his bold, graphic style and his use of comic book imagery in his artwork. He was born in New York City and studied at Ohio State University and the Art Students League in New York.

Lichtenstein's early work was influenced by Abstract Expressionism, but he later developed a unique style that emphasized the visual language of popular culture. He often used a technique called "Ben-Day dots," in which he created images by layering dots of color, mimicking the printing process used in comic books and commercial printing.

In addition to his paintings, Lichtenstein also created sculptures, prints, and other artwork, and he was a pioneer in the use of new media, such as video and digital art. He was also an influential teacher, and taught at several institutions throughout his career, including Rutgers University and the School of Visual Arts in New York.

Lichtenstein's artwork was exhibited widely during his lifetime, and he was the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the National Medal of Arts in 1995. Today, his work can be found in the collections of museums and galleries around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Tate Modern in London.
